Pillars for Change

Pillar is the business community’s link to L.A.’s students, classrooms and schools.  A partnership of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce and the Los Angeles Unified School District, Pillar builds and supports partnerships between businesses and schools to strengthen education and develop the future workforce.

Pillar matches businesses, professional associations and trade organizations with theme-based Small Schools and Small Learning Communities.  These school models differ from traditional campuses by featuring:

  1. Unique, personalized learning environments with fewer than 500 students

  2. Coursework centered around industry-related themes, such as arts and media, finance and health

  3. A focus on parent and community engagement

The expertise and guidance Los angeles professionals can offer to students, educators and administrators is key to developing Small School and Small Learning Community themes, making schoolwork relevant to the real world and inspiring youth to succeed.  In return, businesses see stronger applicant pools for their industries, lower recruiting costs, higher employee morale and increased visibility throughout Los Angeles.

Theme-based programs are a natural fit for business, spanning every industry including:

  1. Arts & Multimedia

  2. Business & Finance

  3. Communications

  4. Construction & Architecture

  5. Environmental Studies

  6. Global Studies

  7. Health

  8. Technology & Engineering
