STAPLES CENTER FOUNDATION

&

10TH STREET ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

The STAPLES Center Foundation adopted 10th Street Elementary School on August  27, 1999.  Through this longstanding partnership, the Foundation and its employees provide academic and financial support for 10th Street through the following activities:

  1. STAPLES Center employees travel to 10th Street Elementary once per week to read with a student partner during their lunch hour.

  2. The STAPLES Center Foundation has committed $50,000 to the school in “in-kind” and cash donations, and corporate sponsorships, and contributes additional funds for other school programs including an annual toy drive.

  3. The foundation helped the school upgrade their technology by granting a $10,000 award for the purchase of a multi-media projector and computer server.

  4. The Foundation has been hosting the school’s culmination, attended by more than 1,000 members of the school community, once a year since 2000.

  5. The Foundation has provided college scholarships to eleven 10th Street Elementary School alumni.

  6. The Foundation provides tickets to performances which the school uses to incentivize students to achieve their goals, to celebrate the school’s academic improvement, and boost staff morale.

As a result of the STAPLES Center Foundation’s involvement:

  1. Students work on literacy with a dedicated team of volunteers

  2. The school has been able to upgrade their technology

  3. The school receives financial support during these challenging budget times

  4. Students receive incentives for achieving their goals, and scholarships to pursue post-secondary education

  5. School faculty are recognized for their efforts to improve academic achievement

The STAPLES Center Foundation remains committed to continuing their partnership with 10th Street Elementary School.  The Foundation believes that their close contact with the school has helped students realize their educational goals, and helped educators feel the community’s support for their important work.  In the short-term, the Foundation would like to expand the weekly reading program.
